This particular beach had a serious amount of driftwood on it. Ashlyn and Landon were especially excited about the driftwood tent they found upon walking onto the beach.
The wind had created beautiful rippled patterns in the sand...
which was not surprising considering the force of the wind on the beach. At times it was hard to stand upright as the wind whipped and the sand stung our faces.
We walked down to this beach every day of our trip. Chris, Jenny and I could usually be found sitting among the driftwood...
the kids found other things...
It may have been bright and sunny but it was COLD! Landon often ran around in shorts and a t-shirt but I was usually layered up in jeans, a sweatshirt AND a jacket!
Chris and Landon found a small pool of water that was perfect for skipping rocks...
or throwing giant boulders.
We found a few driftwood shelters built among the piles of wood. The kids played in them and enjoyed the shelter from the wind. One day Jenny discovered that there were at least three homeless families sleeping in the shelters at night. So one evening after Chris barbecued a steak dinner she and the kids took the leftover steak down to one of the families. They were so thankful for the food and promised to share it with the other families living there.
Landon scored this large piece of driftwood which quickly became a driftwood gun.
More great memories to come...
