Chris' family had taken these same boats on their previous trip. Chris remembered everything about the boats from that trip and couldn't wait for the kids to experience it for themselves. I was excited to experience it too...once I took some Dramamine.
Pretty sure Landon loved it from the second the boat took off from the dock. He especially liked when the captain would spin donuts in the water...
Okay, so we all loved it! I loved it a whole lot more after a second Dramamine.
We got some gorgeous views of Oregon from inside that boat...
There were a lot of birds along the river. We lost track of how many osprey we saw in flight...
perched among the trees...
or peering down from their nests.
We also got to see a few bald eagles. Not as many as we saw when we were in Alaska but still quite a few...
Chris was really hoping that we would see a bear along the river. We heard rumors that the people on the morning trip had seen a black bear. Unfortunately, the only bear we got to see was face down in the river. Too sad for me, I didn't look.
I think the deer was my favorite though.
We plowed through a lot of rapids as we got further down the river. The kids LOVED getting splashed as we charged through the white water. Chris and Jenny had the two outside seats in our row and were soaked by the time we got to our dinner destination.
We stopped for dinner and hiked up to the little farmhouse, literally, in the middle of nowhere...
We ate outside under a canopy of trees and had another delicious family style meal. On the menu was marinated cucumbers, fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, and homemade biscuits. Not surprisingly, Ashlyn said her favorite part of the meal was the mashed potatoes.
One of the owner's dogs, who had greeted us when we arrived, quickly took up residence beneath Landon's feet while we ate dinner. We joked that even dogs who don't know Landon could figure out that he was a messy eater and knew that sitting below his feet during dinner would be the best seat in the house. Chris said they probably called "dibs" when they saw him coming.
Then it was time to head back to the boat for the ride back...
If it's possible I think we saw even more beautiful things on the return trip...
Still more to come...
