Oregon vacation, Day One...
Avenue of the Giants...
I don't know if it was because they loved the giant trees or because they were happy to finally be out of the car but the kids really enjoyed their time exploring the forest.
I am thankful that Jenny was there. Not just because I love her but because she supplied the proof that I was actually on this vacation!
While we were exploring Jenny and I came across a tree that had fallen. Despite the fall it continued to grow, its branches stretching up towards the sky. The first thing that came to my mind was John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
Jenny and I stood and marveled at the awesomeness of God and His creation. How the trees grow upwards just to be a little closer to Him, how their branches lift up in praise. Jenny reminded me that the Bible says the trees of the forest sing with joy.
Chris found our initials carved into a tree...
I like him.
Then it was time to get back on the road...
Our next stop was Eureka where we met up with Uncle Rob and Aunt Ellen...
We enjoyed catching up with them over a family-style dinner at Somoa Cookhouse.
Ashlyn found a vintage typewriter in the museum and Landon found an old potato press/french fry machine.
Rob and Ellen invited us back to their home and showed us the church where Rob is the pastor. We don't get to see them very often but we have so many wonderful memories of them. Obviously, Chris has more than me since I only met them fifteen years ago but my memories are just as good. They are two of the sweetest people I have ever met.
If you ask Landon what his favorite part of our vacation was he will tell you in order:
1. the jetboat ride
2. looking at Uncle Rob's bank collection
More sweet memories made. More to come.
Day 2 coming soon...
