They were a big hit...I even got the famous "Landon eye roll" so I KNOW he enjoyed it!
I read to/with the kids every night before bed. They each get 30 minutes and as long as the book is interesting they usually love this time. I have heard that during the summer most kids forget a lot of what they learned throughout the school year so along with the reading (and just to make sure that Landon was actually paying attention to what we were reading) I made some blank papers with journal lines on the bottom. The kids got to (or had to, depending on who you are talking to) draw a picture of their favorite part from the story the night before and then write at least one sentence about it. I think they did pretty well!
Ashlyn and I are reading a book called "The Girl Who Could Fly". She saw it at the book fair at school and cried when she didn't have enough to buy it. My girl loves to read! I found it at Better World Books for $5.99 and we are both loving it. **Side note: just in case any of you think I am a terrible mother for not purchasing the book from the school so that the school would benefit from my purchase I will just make the disclaimer that I spent WAY too much money at the book fair in the winter and so I felt extremely justified in saving money this time.
Landon and I are reading "Beezus and Ramona". I wasn't sure what he would think about the book but he seems to be enjoying it. He said his favorite part was when Ramona rode her tricycle into the table where Beezus and her friend Henry were playing checkers. Oh, and also when she ate all the apples. I was surprised by how long he worked on his drawing and all the details that he pointed out to me.
Speaking of drawing, we have always seen Ashlyn's drawing talent. She is very creative and is almost always working on some sort of art project. Well, it appears that Landon may also enjoy art as well. As long as he gets to draw something he likes.
Landon brought this picture to me that he drew from his Star Wars Lego Encyclopedia. I have to admit that I was impressed!
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! I am off to enjoy a very good book!
Happy Weekend!

The popsicles look yummy! What a great idea to have the kids journal their favorite part of the story! And I love their drawings. They both have your talent for art for sure.
