We may have extended our lazy morning a little too long because our original plan was to go to Sand Harbor that day but by the time we got there the gates were already closed. Sand Harbor usually closes down because it reaches max capacity but with social distancing they allow far less people in before they close up.
Honestly, I think it was a blessing that we weren't able to visit Sand Harbor. I truly think God knew it would be too hard. The last time we were there was just a few weeks before with Olivia's family celebrating her life. It was also hands-down Olivia's favorite place in the world; a place that she introduced us to just three years ago. We will go back some day but for right now it's just too soon.
As a result we ended up at Zephyr Cove beach. Undoubtedly not our favorite Tahoe destination but that didn't stop us from having a good time along the sandy shores.
During this trip there happened to be a fire in California that rendered the usual bright blue skies a hazy brownish blue impostor.
Ashlyn & Landon paddled out to the rock island that is directly in front of them. They were hoping to be able to jump off of the rocks into the cool blue water but there were no good jumping rocks there.

They did get out to explore the island that they discovered was connected to a land bridge connecting it to the beach. They eventually paddled a little further out & found a different rock formation in which to jump off. In addition, we saw scuba divers who would surface periodically from deep beneath the water.

Landon stayed under the shelter of the tent with Chris most of the day. He suffered a second degree sunburn the last time we were in Tahoe & was not looking to repeat that experience any time soon.
Ashlyn brought a book & did a little reading on the beach. She also brought along some of her art supplies & did a sketch of the lake.
That afternoon we got to enjoy a Tahoe thunderstorm. If you have never experienced this I would highly recommend it. It's incredible to hear & see the power of God in the heavens...
And speaking of the glory of God, Chris captured this photo as I was driving us back to the hotel from the lake. Landon said that it literally looked like the Patagonia logo. God really is the most talented & creative artist.
