oregon road trip, part six...

The Cape Perpetua Scenic area has hiking trails, a visitor's center with magnificent views and the West Shelter.  We searched the horizon for whales but didn't see any this time around.  We drove through windy roads up the mountain and saw beauty around every turn.

Landon thought the West Shelter would make a pretty great fort.

These pictures lead you to believe we were the only ones around but there were actually a lot of people checking out this spot.  I waited patiently until every was out of sight to get these shots.  Some of the people required a little more patience than others.

I kinda love mossy trees.

We planned to hit the Heceta Head lighthouse that afternoon but they had already closed for the day.  It provided the perfect opportunity to hit the beach instead.

I'm pretty sure Landon was more interested in this Dodge Challenger yellow jacket than the beach.
The day was grey and overcast but it made the beach no less inviting than if it had been sunny and warm.

While we were exploring Ashlyn and Landon found a log bridge that crossed a stream of water that led to the ocean.

These pictures crack me up.  Landon grabbed on to Ashlyn so he wouldn't fall in and get his Nike Elite socks wet.  I'm not sure when he became so brand specific but right now he's all about anything Nike Elite and Under Armour.

Skipping rocks…

Landon was building a rock fortress along the water's edge.  This is his face after I started throwing small rocks "near" his fortress, trying to knock it down.

I got a little closer this time...
Nailed it!  It's so nice when you have a mom with the maturity of an eight year old.
Meanwhile, Ashlyn was building a rock tower on a nearby stump.

She did not take it as well when Landon tried to knock down her tower...

That night God blessed us with a gorgeous sunset displaying His glory.  Can you spot the single file line of birds?
