oregon road trip, part five...

After our time in Grant's Pass we headed to the coast.  Our lunch stop not only provided gluten free(GF) food but also just happened to carry Flying Cauldron Butterscotch Beer.  Our obsessed Harry Potter fan, Ashlyn, downed the (sickeningly) sweet drink and her souvenir bottle is now sitting on top of her dresser in her room.

We also found a place that made GF Coconut Cream Pie which just so happens to be Ashlyn's favorite dessert.  As a family we polished off almost half of the pie.  Amazing.

Now on to the beach.  Our first adventure was dune buggy racing at Sand Dunes Frontier.  We had a little time to kill before it was our turn and I found this busy bee among the poppies.

One of the employees gave the kids a deck of cards and they had a few friendly games of War while we waited.  Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

Incidentally, these pictures were taken a few seconds before a giant gust of wind came and quite literally blew their cards up and down the highway.  Chris and the kids ran to catch as many as they could and I think we ended up with 52 cards out of a 54 card deck.

Then it was our turn.

Strapped in and goggled up.

This quickly went to the top of the list as the most favorite adventure.  From the front seat I could hear Landon giggling through the entire ride…as well as Jenny screaming bloody murder.  Even with the sand stinging our faces it was an awesome ride!
That night after dinner we watched the sun set from the small beach in front of our hotel.  This picture is a new favorite (but I say that a lot).

even more to come...
