Ashlyn and I recently had a girls-day-out with Memejo. We had the whole day to play! Memejo suggested that we head over to Bodega Bay to go horseback riding.

I have loved horses ever since I was a little girl. They were actually one of the first thing I ever learned how to draw. I would spend hours in my room pouring over the "How to Draw Horses" book that I got from the book fair at school. They are such beautiful creatures and there is just something so majestic about them.
Ashlyn got to ride a horse named, Shiloh. I watched her timidly approach her horse and was immediately reminded of the first time I ever road a horse. It is so cool to now share that experience with my own daughter.

Memejo rode a horse named, Percilla. Our wrangler, Kendall, told her that her horse used to compete in jumping competitions before she came to their ranch. Memejo was glad her horse didn't attempt to do any jumps during our ride (although she did decide to trot down the trail when the rest of us were walking slowly).

I got to ride a horse named, DJ. He was such a sweet horse. When I stroked his nose he nuzzled me with his head just like Basil does when I pet her. DJ had a hilarious personality. He made it quite clear that he was ready to eat lunch when we started out but went along for the ride anyway.

It was a gorgeous day in Bodega Bay and our ride included views of the wildlife preserve and the ocean.

Incidentally, I have to mention that it is incredibly difficult to take pictures while you are riding a horse. It's pretty much impossible to avoid camera shake while you are bouncing up and down the trail.

Ashlyn loved it!!

Actually, I think we all did.

We each gave our horses some treats at the end of our ride. Ashlyn's horse slobbered on her hand and the expression on her face totally cracked me up.

Horsey kisses...

After we left the horse ranch we stopped for a little lunch. Bodega Bay is famous for being the filming location for the 1963 Hitchcock movie
The Birds. There are places you can visit that were actually in the movie and the restaurant we ate lunch at was named accordingly. I was just thrilled that they had GF food! Oh and I don't normally advertise but the customer service there was awesome.

We took the scenic drive home, enjoying views of lakes, trees and oceans on Highway 1. We also went over two bridges on our way home. If you know me at all, you know that I don't like bridges. Like, at all. I avoid them whenever I can. Of course, living in the Bay Area makes it a little difficult to side step the inevitable bridge crossings.
As much as I despise bridges I do have to admit that they make for some pretty amazing views!

A pretty good girls day if you ask me!
