Tahoe, creeks and critters...

The creek provided many adventures for the kids during our camping trip.  They ventured up and down the fern-lined steps leading to the creek bed a dozen times if not more.   photo IMG_0149_zps4483fbbc.jpg photo 4bb46b12-90a7-475d-b8c0-b900772cf7bd_zpsc4553d03.jpg photo IMG_0150_zps03ce9c29.jpgThe big kids spent a little time down there as well… photo IMG_0151_zps53f9a942.jpg photo 17cdfc04-38ec-4956-8260-9a4960f0a4f4_zps7889504f.jpg photo 59b1110f-f90f-4ea8-91d0-8842d8c0e8ec_zps99082134.jpg photo 583f7fef-3fef-4b0e-b1ce-6480911da115_zpse6133428.jpgAll of the older kids worked together to carefully adjust the wood on the makeshift bridge so that it was sturdy. They all helped Julia master balancing her way across the shallow water.   photo IMG_0147_zpsfd0cf2c7.jpgI love watching my kids enjoy being outdoors.  Whether it's running around, playing sports, riding bikes, hiking or just observing, it is just nice to see them away from the technology that is often so dominant in their day.   photo IMG_0160_zps05272af5.jpgKevin was able to get some cool reflective shots... photo 295240cd-5508-4038-ba27-149263f38a6c_zps0a01e3d3.jpg photo 08dca558-a946-4fd9-83cd-3b4dcc0b31e2_zpsb626cf9a.jpg photo IMG_0158_zps16ea26e3.jpg photo IMG_0153_zps5715a233.jpg photo IMG_0154_zps7b6187dd.jpg photo IMG_0155_zps7cc8cf22.jpg photo c0e25a73-4902-4068-8dda-4de70624ebdd_zpsdc6f66d5.jpg photo 20a05735-fe85-46e6-99ea-c4d89c157f9c_zps585c8051.jpg

The bears stayed away but the chipmunks, however, made their presence known.  photo IMG_0329_zpsd6cdadd7.jpgThey are quite cute but incredibly bold.  Chris and I were sitting quietly at the picnic table while the rest of the crew was down at the creek and a chipmunk jumped up on the table and slowly crawled to within six inches of where I was sitting.  My immediate thought was "RABIES!!" so I moved away before the chipmunk got any closer.   photo IMG_0330_zpsf9036aa4.jpg photo IMG_0327_zpsb4c0e13f.jpgOne day while Landon and I were headed back from the bathroom we saw a squirrel carefully peeling a pine cone.  We stopped to watch as it threw the pine cone pieces that it didn't want and ate little bits here and there.    photo IMG_0344_zps05afd5b4.jpgIn a moment of distraction the squirrel's pine cone rolled down a small embankment.  It froze, stared us down and then tried to retrieve the wayward pine cone.  Landon took a step closer and the squirrel jumped onto the nearby tree and essentially screamed at Landon, which I will admit was slightly creepy.  Of course, it was not as creepy as when all the kids were standing around watching the same squirrel and when the squirrel suddenly screeched at them it was echoed by other squirrels that had gathered in the surrounding trees.
photo IMG_0342_zps79346f58.jpgWhen I looked back at this picture I laughed when I saw that Charlotte is standing behind Landon and is peeking over his shoulder, allowing him to shield her from the squirrel.  My unknowingly chivalrous boy.

One more Tahoe post to come!  Happy Wednesday!
