When we were originally planning our camping trip we had thought of doing a rafting trip down the Truckee River but due to drought conditions they closed early this season.
Incidentally, due to drought conditions they also shut down the showers all but the first day we were in Tahoe…kinda nasty. Thank God for baby wipes and deodorant. Seriously.
With that discovery we decided that a beach day would be the perfect alternative.
Have I mentioned that Lake Tahoe is unbelievably gorgeous? No?
Well, now you know! The water has the appearance of varying shades of blue with the majestic mountains supplying the perfect background. Add to that the puffy white clouds…perfection.
The water is pretty cold and the kids took their time getting used to the frigid temperature…
Jack finally decided to just go for it and quite literally dove right in…
with some bone chilling results.
Ashlyn took her time, wading out slowly.
It seemed like every time I turned around she was further, 
and further,
and further out, until all I could see was her little head bobbing above water.
Landon stuck closer to shore...
Once we all got used to the cold (or our bodies went numb) we had a blast playing in the crystal clear water.
Chris and Kevin surprised us by renting paddle boards. 
Ashlyn was eager to try and Landon went along for the ride.
Kevin took Jack out…
and I even got a turn! 
It is so much fun! I think I have a new obsession! 
The 20mph winds weren't the easiest to navigate around. Neither was my hat blowing off and having to chase it in the choppy water. I got it back though…cuz I got skillz. Just kidding. 
Jack ventured out on his own and quickly mastered the paddle board. In no time at all he was turning, backing up and weaving through tight groups of people like he had been doing this for years.
Good times…
