second grade play...

Landon and I had this conversation on school registration day back in August...

Landon: "Mom... I have to do the second grade play this year."

Me: "Yep.  I remember when Ashlyn was in the play when she was in second grade."

Landon: "Well...I'm just not gonna go to school that day."

Cut to seven months later and the day of the second grade performance had arrived.  Not only did Landon want to go to school but he couldn't wait for us to see him in the play.  photo e5809efd-47ad-40b8-acc5-cc54e183301c_zps82bc102d.jpg
Every kid in second grade had one line to say and then each class sang a different song.  Our family was pretty familiar with the songs because Landon had been singing them for weeks.  Not to mention the fact that this is the exact same play that Ashlyn did when she was in second grade so she sang all of the songs right along with him.

Landon loves to sing but has never liked being in the spotlight.  He was in the children's choir at church for a while and he loved it....right up until the choir performance.  Landon told us that he didn't like all of the people starting at him when he was up on stage.  And that was the end of choir for him.

So naturally, when the mandatory second grade play arrived I was nervous for him.  When the play started I quickly realized that I had worried for nothing.  Landon got up on that stage and didn't show any of the nervousness that I had seen in him before.  He even looked happy to be up on the stage!

Landon was the last kid in his class to deliver his line.  I swear that my heart skipped a beat as he approached the microphone and I prayed that he would remember his line.  Again, I worried for nothing.  He nailed it and even made eye contact with the crowd of parents.

I am so proud of Landon.  It is hard to believe that this is the same child who had adamantly decided to stay home on the day of the play just over six months ago.  The same child who would run and hide behind my legs when he was little.  He is growing up so fast.

I was always sick to my stomach when you or Dominic did this kind of stuff. I would have taken the day off school rather than get up on stage. LOL!
