Emerald Bay beach...

Along with the familiar places we like to visit; Mansion Beach, Meeks Bay, Sand Harbor, Squaw Valley, etc. we always like to leave a little room for new adventures.

After coffee, a good breakfast & warming up by the campfire...
we visited Emerald Bay Beach...

For years I have driven by Emerald Bay, visited the Vikingsholm parking lot & looked out over the lake. I always wondered how those people in the kayaks got down to the bay. I had convinced myself that they must have come in through the channel & never understood why there was NEVER any parking in the parking lot. Like seriously, I love the view just as much as anyone else but how long does it really take to look out at the view?

I never realized there was a mile long trail that led down to the beach. I'm just going to claim that the view is THAT good & I was so distracted by its beauty that I never saw the trail.

Yeah, that's it.

Olivia's family visited the beach last summer & she loved it! She suggested that we spend a day there during our camping trip because she knew we would love it too. So this year, we made the trek down and despite eventually having to hike a mile uphill at the end of the day, it was TOTALLY worth it.

Vikingsholm Castle...

Renting a kayak & paddling out to Fannette Island...

Ashlyn & Olivia got some amazing pictures of the island...

Chris & I even got a chance to kayak together...
We enjoyed relaxing on the beach all day...

Ashlyn created a watercolor painting of Emerald Bay using water straight from the lake itself...
She even incorporated the glittering gold flecks that can be found in the shallow waters along the shore...

At the end of the day the hike back up wasn't pleasant but it was doable. Before heading to the truck Olivia & I stopped to check out Eagle Falls...

Overall, I would totally recommend visiting Emerald Bay Beach. The hike down is moderate but steep (& obviously a lot harder on the way back up). Olivia suggested that we get a wagon before this trip & we are so thankful that we had it to help cart our stuff to & from the beach. It takes some effort but the views alone are worth it.

Back at camp we relaxed in the hammocks...

and Chris cooked up a delicous dinner...

More camping joys to come...
