This year, Chris was going to be on a business trip in New Jersey & he suggested that I take the kids on another trip. Originally, we planned to go to Yosemite but after checking the weather a little over a week out I saw that the forecast predicted snow & freezing temperatures. As much as I wanted to experience Yosemite, hiking in snow & bone chilling temps did not sound appealing. Ashlyn suggested that we take the trip to Monterey again & we all agreed that was a great idea!
So, Spring break arrived & off to Monterey we went...after stocking up on its of road trip snacks. You know, the essentials.

We enjoyed the drive with no traffic, listened to music & talked the whole way. When we arrived it was too early to check in to the hotel so we decided to check out a thrift shop that Ashlyn had been to once with Memejo. She was in heaven...
When we entered the store Landon pointed out that it smelled like Grandpa's house. He was right. IT totally did. Landon ultimately declared thrift stores to be "gross" & couldn't understand why you would want to pay for old clothes that someone else had already worn. He did have fun with some of the accessories & liked the old DVD section.
We found a gluten free burger place for dinner. While the food left us unimpressed the company was great!

We walked through the farmers market on our way back to the car & bought some shortbread cookies from a gluten free bakery that were AMAZING!
When we got back to the hotel we explored the grounds. Landon wanted to show Ashlyn the game area & the fire pit. A friendly game of ping pong ensued.
Ashlyn & I were laughing because I make this exact same face! Also, gotta love the photo bomb...

They had a lot fun but I don't think professional ping pong is in either of their futures.
On to shuffle board...

The kids brought their bathing suits but it was way too cold to swim. Instead we went back to the room & rented the movie Dog Days. Overall, a great first day!
