things they love, part 3...

Chris' love is food.  He is a foodie through & through.  He loves to eat good food & cook good food.

Chris is solely responsible for all of our amazing holiday meals.  From conception to creation he plans it all.  To date, I don't think we have ever had a meal that everyone didn't love.  I know Chris would tell you this is either not true (he is his own worst critic) or surprising.  Surprising because he often makes new meals without a trial run.  They always turn out amazingly delicious.
Not only that but Chris cooks 90% of our daily dinners and...he does all of the grocery shopping.  Yes, I am all too aware that I am spoiled.  Recently, Chris got a promotion at work (I am SO insanely proud of him - he deserves this!) & as a result has been traveling a bit more.  That means that I am in charge of the cooking while he is gone.  Let's just say that my meals don't really measure up to Chris' & I appreciate his food that much more.

I honestly think the difference is that while I cook for survival (hey, we've got to eat, right?!) Chris cooks for the sheer love of food.  He takes such time & care preparing his meals, beautifully plating it all & showing his love for those he is feeding.  He also does all of those things while accommodating the gluten & dairy allergies that inflict our family.
I never have to worry when Chris & I go out to dinner because I know he will choose a restaurant that has some of the most delectable food you could ever eat.  I am never disappointed.

Chris recently got to attend a team building event...in Switzerland.  It just so happened to be a cooking event.  They went to a professional kitchen to cook a full meal as a group. Unbeknownst to Chris but he & his team were assigned dessert.  Each team had a professional chef who was overseeing their group but not assisting them.  They had 40 minutes to come up with & create a dessert, were given no recipes & had to feed over 30 people.

What the people there didn't know is that Chris is known for his Creme Brûlée.  For Easter Sunday he took on the small task of making 22 Creme Brûlées to accompany our meal.  He casual made mention of the fact that the only dessert he knows how to make is Creme Brûlée.  The French pastry chef scoffed at him & said "look at the American who thinks he knows how to make Creme Brûlée."  Well, his dish was voted the best dish by the majority of the group.  After tasting his Rosemary Lime Creme Brûlée the chef changed her tune & agreed that Chris knew what he was doing.  His decision to garnish his dish with a bruleed lime & rosemary leaf shows the kind of attention to detail that Chris adds to all of his dishes.

Whether it's day to day meals, camping creations, decadent desserts or holiday feasts, his food is such a blessing to us all.  You can see some of his creations on his Instagram account @cjfoodie
