Tahoe 2017, Vikingsholm...

The second morning began just as peacefully as the first.  Tranquil & slow, with chirping birds & a cracking fire as the campgrounds slowly awoke.

We planned to drive around the lake that day & end up in Sand Harbor.  Our first stop was Vikingsholm, although we weren't very optimistic that we would be able to stop.  We have tried every single year to find parking in the lot & have been unsuccessful.  This year we FINALLY got a spot! It may have only been for 15 minutes but that was plenty of time to check out Emerald Bay.

And check out that waterfall!  Amazing!!

A few years ago I gave Olivia a sketch of Emerald Bay for her birthday.  I knew that Tahoe held a special place in her heart (another reason why we wanted her to come along on this camping trip) & that if I was going to draw anything for her it would be a sketch of her happy place.  It was really satisfying to be able to check out Emerald Bay from almost the exact same viewpoint as her sketch.

I think we were all enchanted by the spectacular views; the intense blues of the water, the rushing waterfall, the trees dotting the horizon & the snow capped mountains. Incredible.

When we arrived at Sand Harbor the gates had been closed & would reopen in about 90 minutes.  To kill time we visited the Tahoe Science Center & learned a lot about how Lake Tahoe was formed.  They had some fun exhibits including our favorites- a 3D movie, interactive sandbox & research boat.

Sand Harbor coming soon!
