Independence day 2017...

Independence Day is truly one of my favorite holidays.  Our 4th of July party with the Higgins/Hull family is always filled with fun, friends & great food & this year was no exception.  Some of the faces may change & the kids may be a little bigger but one constant is that it is invariably an amazing day.

Some of my favorite kiddos in the whole world...
It doesn't matter that their ages spread a wide span, they always have a blast together.

Braid twins...
Ashlyn is known for floating in pools for long periods of time.  I have never seen someone who is able to float that long.  Any time I try my legs sink & pull the rest of me down with them.  Landon couldn't believe how long she had been floating.
He tried it out for himself without success.

A few minutes later I looked back at the pool & saw him floating away peacefully.  I was surprised he had improved so much in such a short amount of time.  It was then that I realized he had a kick board under his back helping him stay afloat.  Cheating or ingenious?
Floating didn't last long & he was soon showing off his diving board skills along with all the other kids...

The water was about 90 degrees & no one stayed out of the pool for long.

Jason & Chris made another delicious meal.  They went with something "easy" this year.  You know, just handmade burgers with all the possible toppings & condiments you could think of, grilled hot dogs & hot links, hand cut & seasoned french fries, homemade pickles, fresh green salad...it's no wonder they never had time to swim or even sit down.  We are grateful though.  The food was amazing, as always. They even grilled peaches for dessert to be paired with ice cream.  There were also s'mores with marshmallows roasted around the fire pit.

Mark & Olivia had Pop-Its & the kids were so excited to try them.  Once they got the hang of throwing them down & not across the yard they couldn't get enough.

This picture cracks me up.  Ashlyn & Reagan are talking about airplanes & she was pointing one out in the sky...meanwhile, Olivia was being swarmed by children trying to get more Pop-Its.
And then it was time for fireworks.  The night was there perfect temperature, not too hot & not too cold.  We hiked up the hill & got to see fireworks from at least three different shows.  It's the perfect distance away for the really little kids who still get a bit scared at the sounds of fireworks bursting in air & we don't have to battle the insane crowds.

Chris got a turn on Mark & Linda's pool table before we headed back home.

I am so thankful to live in this country & for the freedom that we have.  I am thankful for the men & women who died for that freedom.  I pray that we will live our lives the way we pledged since we were small children:
One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty & justice for all.

God bless the USA!
