camping, part two...

Lake Tahoe beaches are so beautiful.  The water is crystal clear and the variations of blues you see as you look out across the lake are unbelievable.

Despite their age difference, Landon and Julia spent a lot of time building sand castles and playing in the water together.
The dad's were the heroes of the day for blowing up the inner tubes.

What do you do when you have five kids and two inner tubes?  You make the biggest kid drag you around the lake.

I don't think she had a problem with that.  Like I said, anything that gives Ashlyn an excuse to spend time in the water is fine with her.

This picture is totally blurry but it still makes me laugh.  Landon thought it would be funny to sneak up on Kevin and splash him with the icy cold water.  I don't think he expected Kevin to grab him and dunk him in the water.

After dinner it was time for S'mores!  Thankfully, by that time the sun had set because this year Tahoe was literally swarming with yellow jackets.  Any time we got any food out they would descend on our campsite.  They are extremely aggressive too.  One night Christy made chili and we had to eat while walking around the campsite and swatting at them as they dive bombed our chili and intrusively flew at our faces.  A few people closed themselves inside the trucks just so they could eat in peace.

The campsite had "bee bags" hanging from the trees and they were so full that the bags were nearly bursting with the thousands of bees caught inside.  They were so combative that we eventually decided that it wasn't worth cooking at the campsite.  Dining out at a Mexican food restaurant was much more relaxing.

The S'mores were eaten without interruption because the bees had returned to their colony and left us to the tranquility of the quieting campground and crackling fire.
