giving thanks, part two...

I took this sneaky shot through the window of Chris working really hard on the turkey.

I kid.  This was the calm before the storm.  Chris worked incredibly hard (as always) and our meal was amazing!  He grilled the turkey again this year and it had so much flavor!

Plus, he's kinda cute.  Forever the boy with the beautiful blue eyes…

I mean, really…how good does that look?!

Chris made an entirely gluten free meal that was also entirely delicious!  BBQ turkey with herb butter, corn bread stuffing with sausage, cranberry sauce with figs, mashed potatoes with chives and shallot gravy, and roasted butternut squash with brussel sprouts and onion.

Chris asked the blessing for our food.  He brought tears to our eyes, as he thanked God for His provision, for family and for those who couldn't be with us that day for one reason or another.

One thing you need to know about Ashlyn…she LOVES mashed potatoes.  After her first helping she went back for seconds and we all had a good laugh when we saw that the scoop was almost as big as her head...

I was in charge of the desserts.  I made a chocolate peanut butter pie again because Chris loves it, and a pumpkin pie.

Hal surprised me by making me a Key Lime pie just because he knows how much I love his Key Lime pie.  Jenny told me that at 9:00pm the night before he said, "I forgot to make Stephanie's pie!" and then stopped what he was doing to make the pie for me.  So sweet…and tart.  I mean, it IS Key Lime pie after all.

After dessert the kids went a little crazy.  Okay, maybe just Landon.  Of course, we soon discovered that he had three pieces of pie so a sugar high was to be expected.

The big kids just relaxed.

The Bible tells us to give thanks in all circumstances.  That means when things are going our way and even when things are difficult we should always give thanks.  I have so much to be thankful for, not just on Thanksgiving Day but every single day.

First, I am so thankful for my salvation and for Jesus' payment of my sins so that I have forgiveness and the promise of eternal life.  I am beyond blessed to be married to my best friend who always supports me and loves me.  Being a mom is one of the greatest privileges of my life and I thank God every day for giving me Ashlyn and Landon.  I have an awesome family and even when we argue we still know that we will always love each other.  I am thankful for my truly amazing friends.  I am thankful for good health which we know is something that we should never take for granted.  I seriously could go on and on.

Basil was just thankful that Papa came all the way down to our house just to pet her.  Sure... that's it.

We had a beautiful day.  I hope my kids will look back at their Thanksgiving traditions one day and remember the love all around them and the laughter that we shared.
