So it's November already…and I'm still in denial that summer is over. I'm not quite ready for the cold weather and I'm definitely not ready to start pulling out the Christmas decor.
Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas. I love the holidays. Thanksgiving is actually one of my favorite holidays. I'm just not ready for it all yet. I know there are lots of people out there who are already decorating for Christmas and listening to Christmas music.
But I don't want to see Christmas decorations in stores in mid October.
I don't want to see Christmas commercials before Halloween has even arrived.
Can't we spend some time enjoying fallish things before we move on to winter? If you live in California the leaves have only just started to change in the last two weeks.
So this is me, being stubborn. I'm digging in my heels.
I'm going to take it slow and try to enjoy fall before it's over.

In the spirit of Fall, Ashlyn, Landon and I made some leaf-shaped sugar cookies after school.

Every time I bake with the kids I kick myself for not doing it more. They love measuring and adding the ingredients, rolling the dough and using the cookie cutters. Sure, they make a bit of a mess and my OCD tendencies can get a little anxious but they are only young once. They need opportunities to get their hands dirty and have fun in the kitchen.

They worked really well together and took turns adding the ingredients. Ashlyn helped Landon while he was adding the flour and they took turns being the one who got to turn on the mixer.

Landon was determined to crack the eggs all by himself. He was afraid to break the shell so I'm pretty sure he tapped it on the counter about 20 times before he hit it hard enough to make a crack. We had him crack the egg into a separate bowl so we didn't get any egg shells in the dough.

He did a good job and only dropped one piece of shell in the bowl that we easily removed.

Landon chose orange for the cookie's icing color and I spent the evening decorating the cookies. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of them. I was a bit distracted... Landon and I were watching game seven of the World Series and I had to keep stopping to jump up and down and cheer for the Giants. World Series champs three times in five years! Woohoo!!!!!
Anyway, that's why there are no pictures of the cookies. Although, I did have an opportunity to take pictures of Landon as he was enjoying the cookies later in the week.

I think he liked them.

So… that's us enjoying some fallish things! Happy Friday!
