april art...

Last month the art lesson I taught for Landon's class was all about Paul Klee.  He was a Swiss artist and he used a lot of simple shapes in his paintings.  We focused on studying cubism and specifically Klee's "Head of Man" painting.

The kids got to use basic shapes to draw either a self portrait or just a picture of a person.  They traced over the person with a dark crayon...

and then using water and a paintbrush we added bleeding tissue paper to the picture.

It was a bit messy but thankfully it cleaned up easily and all of the tissue bleeding washed out of their clothes.

The tissue paper was later removed and had left a lot of bright colored squares all over the page.

The kids loved this project!  Here are Ashlyn and Landon's completed pictures...

I really enjoyed teaching the kids this year and have already volunteered to be the art docent for Landon's class next year.  Today was our last art lesson and when I told the kids it was the last lesson of the year they were all sad.  I am so glad they enjoyed creating different kinds of art.  I am excited for next year!
