recapping...

This past weekend Landon finished up basketball.  We arrived a little early and he got to watch the end of one of his best friend's game.  Photobucket
Landon caught me taking his picture.  This is his, "really, Mom, the camera...again?!" face.  Photobucket
After opening prayer, Landon's team got down to business...

Landon did a great job and had a lot of fun.  He decided that he really likes basketball.  He is looking forward to next season.

Sunday night there was an award ceremony for the basketball league.  It was probably one of the longest events in the history of the world.  Ok, so that is a bit of an exaggeration but my gosh, how long does it take to hand out a couple of awards and say "thanks for a great season"?

The best part of the award ceremony was the entertainment.  Mark Lippard juggled fire, Photobucket
and rode three different unicycles, each one taller than the last.

Ashlyn's reaction to the unicycles was priceless...

She stared in wonder and said, "he's going to kill himself."  I guess my girl won't be riding off into the sunset on some guy's unicycle any time soon.

The kids really loved his act.  They jumped up and down and cheered as loud as they could.  Photobucket

The kindness campaign is still going strong.  I have been praying for God to change my heart and help me to show kindness to my family.  To help me consider their needs and to show them love.  Photobucket
Yesterday, when I was picking the kids up from school Ashlyn told me that she hurt her hand in class.  I examined her hand and she explained that when she was erasing her pencil slipped and stabbed into her hand.  She had a deep scratch and what looked like the tip of her pencil stuck in her palm.  I cleaned it when we got home but there was no way I was going to be able to get the black out of her hand.  We ended up having to make a trip to the doctor.

When my kids were toddlers everyone told me not to make a big deal if they fell down or hurt themselves.  Don't jump up and run to their aid and whatever you do don't gasp in horror at the scene before you.  So with that in mind I bit my lip when they fell and kept quiet, telling them that they were ok.

I wonder now if that is the best advice.  I don't know about you but when I am hurt or sick I like it when someone takes care of me.  Who likes to hear, "Oh, you're fine." when they are hurting?  Wouldn't you rather have a hug and know that someone cares about you?

So, I fought the urge to tell Ashlyn she was "fine" and that she didn't need to cry.  I put my arm around her and told her that I know it hurts.  Chris told her that he knew how she felt because he had been stabbed with a pencil two times when he was younger.  (Two times?!  Good grief, what kinds of kids did he play with when he was in elementary school?!)

Anyway, one visit to the doctor, two iodine swabs and a traumatic tweezer incident later and we came to the conclusion that there was no foreign object left in Ashlyn's hand.  She will live to smile another day.Photobucket

I have noticed that as I work on being kind and loving towards my family they are more kind and loving to each other.  I have heard many times that the wife/mother sets the tone for her family.  If I am unpleasant and unkind my family tends to follow my example.  I am thankful that God gives me the strength to do all things because this would be a very heavy load to bear if I had to do it all on my own.

We are enjoying the cooler weather and the rain this week.  It seems spring is right around the corner.

Happy Tuesday!
