One day my mom & I were talking & I don't know how we even got around to it but we ended up deciding that we wanted to plan a road trip this summer. We settled on Shasta as our destination & I found a sweet little house for us to stay at on VRBO.
My mom had a few photo spots that she wanted to hit along the way. Some were off the beaten path...& some were way WAY off the beaten path. Like the dirt road lined with olive trees that ended up being a driveway. And the theme of the trip was that while electronic Maps are helpful & convenient they are also super unreliable when you are, oh I don't know... WAY out in the middle of nowhere! It made fore some pretty exciting & hilarious adventures.

We did make it to Shasta &, thanks to some amazing yelp reviews, had dinner at Yaks on the 5 where I'm pretty sure we ate the best burgers we have ever had in our entire lives.

We walked down to the nearby creek that we could hear from our vacation rental. It was well past sundown & we lost light really quickly.

We crashed that night after the long drive and discovered the only downside to our sweet little vacation rental. There were train tracks literally about 25 yards from our front door & this is what we heard at least 4 times throughout the night...

Shasta county hit triple digits the week that we were there. We braved the heat because we wanted to go check out Burney Falls. It was totally worth it.

The California parks & rec website describes Burney falls as a waterfall & stream fed by large springs that are commonly associated with areas covered by recent lava flows, & also of a waterfall formed by the undercutting of horizontal rock layers. Just another truly incredible example of God's creation.

FYI....I loved staying near the train tracks and hearing the train go by even in the middle of the night. This trip was really fun!
