New Years Eve surprise...

New Years Eve is something we look forward to every year.  We usually spend the holiday with our friends, the Hulls.  Sadly, this year they were hit with the nasty flu bug that has been wreaking havoc this winter.  We set out looking or an alternate way to spend our NYE.  I was thinking snow & possibly Tahoe.  Chris had something else in mind.  He did some research & realized that with all the traveling that he has done for work he had a lot of free air miles & Marriott points.  As a result, we surprised the kids with a New Years trip...

They aren't used to us making spontaneous trips.  Chris & I are both planners so they were pretty surprised, to say the least.

I'm not sure whether Landon was more excited about the Disneyland trip or the airplane ride.  This is the first time we have flown since Landon's type 1 diagnosis.  Landon was a little nervous that the metal detector would go off when he walked through but we assured him that it would be okay.  After a brief explanation that he has type 1 & has an insulin pump & continuous glucose monitor he got through with no issues at all.

After a short ride to to hotel & dropping off our luggage...

it was off to Disneyland!

New Years Eve at Disneyland was bustling with people, music, dancing, NYE hats & (unfortunately) horns. I could really do without the annoying shriek of the horns.  I prefer the blood-curdling screams on the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride.

We positioned ourselves on Buena Vista Avenue in California Adventure as the clock counted down the last few minutes of 2017.

As the clock struck midnight we rang in the New Year surrounded by cheers & fireworks

We closed out the night (or morning) with one more ride on California Screamin' (Landon's favorite) & then headed back to the hotel to get some rest after our eventful last day of 2017.

Happy New Year, all!  More New Years Disney fun to come!
