A few weeks ago I told Chris that I needed to get out of the house because I was suffering from serious cabin fever after being at home doing the same exact thing day in & day out. I love summer with its freedom from rigorous schedules & school. I know that I am the type of person who normally thrives on routine but during the summer I usually enjoy the escape from the rigidity. That said, sometimes the days between activities kinda drives me nuts.
So Chris planned a day of escape to Muir Beach. We actually visited this same beach in January 2016.

More than the water, I think Pepper most enjoyed watching the other dogs. Most of them were off-leash so from time to time they would curiously bound over & sniff out the newest dog to the beach. Pepper furiously tried to pull away from the leash so she could play with the other dogs. I was not about to let her off of the leash because I wasn't 100% sure that she would come back when I called her. At home, she obeys when I call her 90% of the time. However, at home there are no other dogs battling for her attention.
In addition to a day away this trip marked Pepper's first time at the beach. Our little bug (no that's not a typo) loves water. I have never in my life had a dog who likes water. Usually, at the first sight, they dig in their paws & refuse to go any closer.
At first Pepper didn't pay any attention to the water. In fact, she was so unaware of the ocean that as we were about to take her in the water, she promptly relieved herself on the shoreline & sent us scrambling for a bag.
She did end up going in the water. As the waves crashed onto the shore Ashlyn walked a little closer & a little closer until she was sure the tide would flow over their feet.

Pepper was definitely taken off-guard and at first tried to back away but then stood up on all fours & pranced through the water.

I passed down to Ashlyn the first DSLR camera that I got from my mom. She has been showing an interest in photography & has been studying the different camera settings & practicing taking photos.

The beach is admittedly not Landon's favorite place. He has always had a healthy fear of the ocean & doesn't really like the sand. When he was a baby he would cry when we put him down & then try whatever he could do to get the sand off of his hands. And heaven forbid he get even a single grain of sand on his peanut butter & jelly sandwich.

Landon found some discarded wood in the sand. He carried the leaning tower of wood that he had stacked & tried to build a chair out of it for himself.

We left the beach & stopped at BooKoo for dinner. Chris used to frequent BooKoo when his office was in Marin County & had been craving their Asian street food. Especially, the brussel sprouts.
Overall, I'd say it was a successful first trip to the beach for Pepper. Plus it was a calm, relaxing day & was just the change of scenery I needed to refuel for the week.
