first day of school, 2017...

The first day of school has arrived!  Ashlyn is a freshman this year (HOW did THAT happen?!) & Landon is in 7th grade.
Seriously, how is she a freshman?  Why is she suddenly so grown up?!  I was reflecting on how little she was when she started middle school.  She was terrified of the "giant" 8th graders & how they towered over her in the halls.  Now she is a FRESHMAN!
Landon is pretty happy about the fact that he isn't a tiny 6th grader anymore.  He enthusiastically told me that, "The 6th graders are SO tiny!  There was one kid who only came up to my waist!"  I'm pretty sure that is an exaggeration but I'm just glad he doesn't feel like he is the shortest kid at school anymore.

I am a little bit sad to have them gone at school every day. That fact alone makes me feel a little better as a mother since I was literally counting down the weeks/days until they started school.  I may or may not have basked in the joy of the renewed silence this morning after drop-off.  This mama needed a vacation from summer break.

It's okay though, I'm pretty sure they needed a break from me too.
I am praying for them as they navigate day to day life with friends, classes, new teachers, a new school & all the other things they will encounter this year.  I know that the Lord has amazing plans for them & I pray that they will let their lights shine for Him every day.
