camping 2015, part four...

We returned to the campground after our day at the lake and Chris started making fajitas for dinner.

They were delicious, naturally.  Chris seriously makes the best food but for some reason I think it tastes even better when we are camping.

Of course, we saved room for some s'mores.  We made dark chocolate, milk chocolate and peanut butter cup varieties.

Oh, and some double chocolate brownies that Jenny sent camping with us.

Instead of telling our (non)progressive stories like the previous night, Chris told us some stories from his Boy Scout days.  The kids liked hearing about him when he was little and all the pranks, or rights of passage as he would call them, that he and his friends played on other kids.  Chris shared stories like the time his troop was on a 50 mile hike and there was a forest fire that produced ash falling like snow on their heads as they hiked.  He told of character building exercises where the boys were taken into the woods and had to sit by themselves in the dark.  Ashlyn and Landon sat and listened intently as he told story after story.

I think he may have been tired of all my pictures.

The sky is beautiful, even at night.

Sitting around the fire may be some of my favorite family times.  Every part of it; the smell of the campfire, the sounds of crackling fires and wind through the trees, and being able to look around and see the faces of the family that I have been blessed with… it all makes me unbelievably thankful.
