Recently, two older women who lead out in the middle school group at church cleaned out their old jewelry and told Ashlyn she could have any of the pieces that she wanted. Ashlyn was beaming as she showed me all of her new accessories. She laid out each piece and carefully examined each one.

I was reminded of the day that my mom gave me all of the rings that she wore in high school. Thankfully, in the hopes that I would someday have a daughter who I could pass them down to, I had saved all of my old jewelry. I got them out and told Ashlyn that I had saved them just for her.
Ashlyn was thrilled to have such precious treasures and continued to sit in amazement that they all belonged to her. I told her stories behind some of the most special pieces; one given to me by my best friend, one purchased in Hawaii on my senior trip, almost every ring given to me by my own mom.
When I was in middle school I was known to wear a ring on every single finger. Once I got into high school toe rings became really popular and I wore a few of those as well. In fact, I wore a toe ring until I was 7 months pregnant with Ashlyn when I decided that it was not worth the threat of having it cut off my pregnancy-swollen toe.
I have been told many times that Ashlyn looks just like me. When I look at her now, with my long cherished rings adorning every finger, I think all she really needs is braces on her teeth, a scrunchie in her hair and some nineties inspired bangs and she would be almost an exact replica of a 12 year old me.
My little mini-me.
