finished project...

This morning I got to teach the art lesson for Landon's class.  The kids did such a great job and they actually had fun! They each made their own abstract winter trees that I talked about in this post.  The teacher even made her own tree.  She liked the project so much that she is going to use it in the upcoming art show!  Yay!  I was so worried that it wouldn't go over well.  Whew!

Remember (months ago) when I said that I was working on a project?  Well, I finally finished it!

I saw this project on a blog last year and I fell in love with it.  It was inspired by the book, The Help.   A character in the book, named Aibileen, is an African American maid in the 1960s.  She works for a white family and is essentially raising the unaccepted daughter of her employer.  To build up the little girl's self-esteem every day she tells her, "You is kind.  You is smart.  You is important."

Here is the completed project:

Not bad for someone who can't sew, huh?!

I did not sew the actual pillow.  My mom and I bought the pillow inserts and the orange pillow cases.  We purchased all of the bright colored fabrics and then used her Silhouette to cut out all the fabric shapes (BIG time saver).  After everything was cut and ready to go I stitched them onto the pillow.

I love it!  I gave this pillow to my mom and I am going to make one for Ashlyn next.  I think it will look so cute in her room.

I think I may have to suck it up and admit that I like (some) crafts.....  not all though!!!

Thank you again! I absolutely LOVE this pillow! It is displayed in my living room for all to see. Oh, and it is now on my rocking chair and it looks just fabulous <3
