Back to (a NEW) School!

Wednesday was the start of a new school year. It proved to be a new beginning for us in a lot of ways.

We moved over the summer and made sure we were in an area with great schools for our kids. Ashlyn started second grade this year and Landon is in Kindergarten at the same school as Ashlyn for the first time! The kids have been looking forward to school starting for weeks.

This week was full of school events: Back to school bonanza where we got the class assignments, meet and greet with the kinder teachers, new student orientation, first day of school, back to school night....whew! Needless to say I was exhausted by week's end!

Landon was so excited to meet his teacher and check out his classroom at the meet and greet. The kids were allowed to explore the room and Landon immediately headed to the Legos. The classroom has an array of Legos including a ton of Harry Potter pieces. Landon doesn't know anything about Harry Potter but that didn't slow him down one bit! He also enjoyed the playhouse that was created by an Eagle Scout specifically for the Kindergarten class.

On the first day of school the kids eagerly awoke and ate their breakfasts. We ventured out to take pictures of them before taking Ashlyn off to her first day as a big second grader.

Don't you just love seeing siblings loving on each other?!

As you can see, Ashlyn stuck to her "signature color" on the first day of school...

School wouldn't be complete without a Star Wars backpack

After we dropped off Ashlyn, Landon and I had a few hours before we had to head back to school for the Late-bird Kindergarten start time. Yes, my kids start school at different times...and yes, my kids END school at different times as well. So, I am at school FOUR. TIMES. A. DAY!!! Apparently, the school doesn't take into account that you have other children attending their school when they assign Early-birds and Late-birds. I think they must have some sort of deal with the gas companies.

As Landon waited patiently for his class to start we spied on Ashlyn playing on the playground during her morning recess.

All lined up and ready for school to begin...

Is it just me or is Landon giving this kid the stink eye?

I think this is going to be a great school year for us. I believe that God had a lot more blessings in store when he moved us than we ever imagined. Not only did we get a better education for our kids but we are at a school where parents get involved! They talk to the other parents and form friendships. They meet at the park and let their kids play while the Moms get to sit and shoot the breeze. This is like a different world from where we came from. A school where there was no parent involvement, no class directory, frustrated teachers, and a drive through only pick-up and drop-off which prevented the parents from getting to know anyone or setting play dates for their kids.

So again, I thank You, Lord! Thank you for blessing us beyond measure.
