Ashlyn decided that this year she wanted to go to the beach to celebrate her birthday. Of course, the day of the big beach trip the weather was not planning to cooperate. We headed to Monterey for the day with Ashlyn's best friend Cydney, her sisters Lilly and Bella, and their parents, Chris and April. Our first stop was Dennis the Menace park where the kids got out some of their energy from the drive and ate a picnic lunch. The park has a lot of great features including a giant train for the kids to climb on and some super fun slides and playgrounds.
After the picnic we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The kids had a great time checking out all the exhibits. The seahorse and shark tanks were among the favorites. They also had a great time with all of the hands on exhibits.
The weather turned out to be perfect for a trip to the beach so we drove to a local beach in Monterey. The beach had almost no waves so the kids were able to swim and wade in the water. Even Lilly and Landon were able to go in the water and were not knocked over by crazy waves. The best part of the beach trip was when a paddle-surfer entered the water. All of the kids on the beach stopped what they were doing to watch him paddle out into the ocean!
We were all pretty hungry after the big day and went to Pizza My Heart for dinner where Ashlyn lost her first tooth (see previous post)! The birthday girl then got to go to Coldstone and get an ice cream! All of the kids chose blue cotton candy ice cream. Mmmmm!
Chris and I still can't believe our baby girl is six years old. She has grown so much and amazes us with her new talents every day.
