The Napping House

Ashlyn is loving Kindergarten. Every day she comes home from school and tells me about what letter they worked on that day and what book the teacher read. One day this week she came home and said that the teacher had read The Napping House. This book has always been a favorite in our house. When Ashlyn was younger she used to choose it every night before bed and now it is a big surprise if Landon doesn't pick it as his bedtime book. The kids both know every word of the story. In addition, our family has added sound effects to the book. For those of you who aren't familiar with the story it is about a granny who is asleep in a bed and is soon joined by a dreaming child, a dozing dog, a snoozing cat, etc. A wakeful flea ends up biting the mouse who is on the top of the pile, which is where our sound effects come in. There is a mouse squeak, a cat meow, a dog woof and so on.

Ashlyn said that when her teacher started reading the book that she "read" the book out loud along with her. I guess the little girl next to her wasn't really thrilled with her reading but the teacher told her that it was great. I was praying that she didn't do the sound effects when she was "reading" along with the teacher. I'm thinking the teacher wouldn't have appreciated that as much as her enthusiastic read along. Ashlyn assured me that she didn't do any sound effects.

I am thankful that our kids love to read and that they are both enjoying school so much. Now that Ashlyn has met some new friends she doesn't dread going to school every day. I know she likes the reading and working on drawing pictures of the stories they have heard that day. Landon loves going to school as well. He only goes to school on Tuesday and Thursday but he asks every day if he can go to school. He is extremely disappointed on the days that he can't. I really hope this lasts a long time!
