sweet 16...

16 years ago today, God decided it was time for her to make her appearance.  It may have been six & a half weeks early but He knew she was ready & that He had made her strong.
Ashlyn didn't ask for much for her birthday but coincidentally her birthday landed right around the same time that the Harry Potter Vans were released.  She told me a few of the styles that she liked & told me that I could surprise her with whichever pair I wanted.  This was the result...

She said she wanted ice cream to celebrate so Landon & I put together a ice cream "cake" made with cashew milk vanilla ice cream (for those of us who are diary free), crushed gluten free birthday cake sandwich cookies (for those of us who are gluten free) & smashed dark chocolate peanut butter cups.
It was a HIT!  I don't know why I didn't think of this before.  It's so simple & everyone loved it, most importantly the birthday girl loved it!  She did not enjoy being sung to quite as much.  (I'm pretty sure this face says "dear God, make it stop!")
Ashlyn, I can't believe it has been 16 years since I held you in my arms for the first time & finally knew what it felt like to have a piece of my heart beating outside of my body.  To love someone so much that I had never seen but already knew so well.  God has blessed you with an immensely kind heart & I am so proud of the loving, considerate, compassionate woman you are becoming.  Your smile is contagious & I love that your infectious laugh is without restraint.  Keep shining your light so others may see His work in you & continue being uniquely YOU!

Happy birthday, Peewee.  I love you!
