weekend wrap-up, on Wednesday...

The weekend came and went a bit too fast.  Under a dark sky that finally opened up and poured rain down upon us we made the trip to Sacramento.

After arrival hugs the kids headed straight for daddy and Uncle Craig's beloved LEGOs.  Their favorite thing to do is comb through the creations from the past.
Emay even got out Uncle Craig's personal LEGO collection.  Craig loved his LEGOs.  He purchased a lot of the pieces himself, mostly Star Wars related, when he was an adult.
Landon loves them…
Ashlyn grew tired of LEGOs and moved on to playing house.
Jenny took me to a gluten free bakery in downtown Sac that proved to be well worth the trip.  We loaded up on a large array of GF desserts with the promise that I would get to sample each and every one of them.  Can't complain about that!

We mostly stayed indoors, sheltered from the rain.  Sometimes it's nice to huddle up inside and just enjoy each other's company.

Landon, who was itching to go outside, was gazing out the window and shouted, "Look at all the birds!"

What we saw outside resembled something from an old Hitchcock movie...

Later in the day we were joined by Cousin Adam.  We talked and caught up on life and laughed until our stomachs ached.  The kids LOVED him and his stories.  Of course, I think Adam ended up making a friend for life in Basil.  She was smitten from the moment he walked through the door.  Every picture I tried to get of the two of them together ended up being blurry because she would not stop wiggling...

Chris and Hal made Craig's famous Jambalaya for dinner.  Ashlyn, Landon and I had never experienced Craig's signature dish and it totally lived up to its reputation.

I didn't get any pictures of Sunday but it was such a blessing to our family.  Chris, the kids and I got to go and worship at Hal and Jenny's church for the first time.  Ashlyn and Landon didn't even know that Jenny played the piano in the praise team before sitting in the services that day.  Ashlyn made sure to grab a front row seat.

I am so very thankful for this family of mine.  Both the one I was born into and the one that I married into.  They raised me, they tolerated me during my adolescent years, they gave me the man that I love.  Not only that but they continue to help guide me through life and they love me, no matter what.  These people... they help shape the person that I am.

My heart is full.
