I love that the kids are having fun making rubber band bracelets for everyone they know. I remember being a kid and making friendship bracelets like there was no tomorrow. Many nights, long after I should have been in bed, I could be found hiding beneath my desk where my nightlight was plugged in with a knotted string on a safety pin making bracelets for all of my friends. Sure, it was a fad but at that time in my life friendship bracelets were forever, as were ketchup sisters (because we were afraid of blood) and dirt houses. I am well aware that this is probably a fad too. Last year it was Silly Bandz, this year it's the Rainbow Loom.
Fad or not, my kids love their Rainbow Looms.

This is a frequent scene in our house…
Last night I spent a good portion of the night mastering the Double X and the Triple Single because Landon asked me to make him a bracelet and as he said, "I made one by myself but when I took it off the loom the rubber bands went flying everywhere." Well…I guess that explains the rubber band explosion in his room.
Of course, after I finished making a Triple Single bracelet (seriously, why do I know the names to all these?!) for Landon, Ashlyn asked for one too. So I started making one for her only to have a rubber band snap somewhere in the third row of pins causing me to start all over. Rainbow Looms lose their luster really quickly when you are almost finished with a bracelet and have to begin all over again.

Ashlyn has made her share of bracelets and spent a good portion of Christmas day sorting out all the colored bands. Surprisingly though, the one who seems to be obsessed the most is Landon. He has made rings, necklaces, bracelets and even a pair of handcuffs. Hours have been spent mastering the Fishtail and he is currently still working on the Double X and the Zippy Chain. I have to admit that I would much rather him spend his time making bracelets than playing mindless games on the iPad.

So if you happen to see Landon any time soon don't be surprised if you leave with a bracelet….or two.
