Ashlyn has been doing really well in school. She loves her teacher and frequently comes home with humorous stories about her day. She seems to have matured so much. A lot of her interests have changed with that maturity. Some of which I have to admit are pretty hilarious. For example…
She gave away her DVD, scribbled out his name and drew a mustache on his poster. Apparently, "Bieber-fever" has been cured! Can't say that I'm sorry!
Ashlyn's newest obsession is Harry Potter. She checked out Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone from the library at school and blew through it in no time at all. She loved every minute of it and couldn't wait to get her hands on the next book. When she decided to read The Chamber of Secrets for her book report she started out by calculating how many pages she would have to read per day to finish on time. The number turned out to be 23 pages a day, which at first seemed overwhelming to her but she quickly found that she couldn't put the book down. She finished the book three days early. This is a frequent sight in our house these days...
Landon…well, Landon has been a bit of a challenge lately. He's pushing boundaries and throwing tantrums that rival some of the best four year olds you have ever seen. I'm gonna be completely honest here, it's hard to deal with. I am trying to be as patient and loving as I can.
I know that some of it is from difficulty with school work. Man, can I relate. I remember sitting down with my dad at the kitchen table when I was a kid trying desperately to understand the math homework. It almost always ended with me in tears. So I know that I need to extend grace to him when he is feeling this way. The last thing he needs is a frustrated parent when he feels like he just doesn't understand something. Sometimes we both just have to take a break. I think at times it is better to take a breather than for us to get so overwhelmed that we start yelling at each other. That never helps anyone.
It's not all frustrations though. One of my favorite things is when I tuck my kids into bed and get to pray with them. Landon is so thoughtful with his prayers. He thanks God for friends, for daddy's job, that we have food to eat and a house to sleep in and that God is forgiving. He prays that God will help him to be obedient. I get so much joy from hearing my children pray.
Landon's current (and constant) obsession…food. These days, popcorn is the go-to snack of choice. If Landon doesn't bring a bag of popcorn to school the kids ask him why he doesn't have popcorn today. His backpack and his room can usually be found with stray kernels rolling around. Gotta love him.
Chris has been crazy busy with work. I got to go with him to a work dinner last week which was probably the longest amount of time that we have spent together in a long time! He jokingly said to me on Saturday and said he is starting to forget what I look like! I have a better excuse for forgetting what Chris looks like…
Most of my time has been spent on The Story. It has been so amazing to see how God is working to bring everything together. We are now less than a month away! If you don't have your tickets - get them soon!
Anyway, that's our life in a nutshell! Goodnight, Friends!
