Creeks and cookies

A lot of people don't like the rain.  Personally, I love it.  Now you would think that with my being a "curly girl" I wouldn't enjoy the rain.  While I don't enjoy the frizzy fro that the rain produces I love so many other things about it I guess I can forgive the rain for the inconvenience.  I love to gaze out at the sky as the clouds roll in, to hear the sound of the rain drops, to watch it fall from the sky.  I love the greenery that it produces in the winter and spring, and most recently I love to hear the sound of the rushing creek near our house full of the recent rains.

I can open my windows and just bask in the peaceful sounds.

I could not get over the beauty of the creek this morning on my walk with Basil.  All I could hear was the sound of the birds chirping, the flowing creek and the occasional cow mooing.

On our hike to the creek Basil and I passed some of the cows grazing on the hills.  Basil was quite curious (no doubt thinking they were the biggest and weirdest dogs she had EVER seen) and the cows, well they were NOT thrilled with her presence at all.

The cows probably see her as too close a resemblance to the coyotes that come and torment them.  Last week we watched a coyote face off with one cow while the other cows surrounded the calves and moved as far away as they could.  So that could be why this cow gave Basil the evil eye as we passed by...

Last week I made cookies for my friend's baby shower.  I was so excited to make the cookies!  I found the perfect cookie cutters, I made my mom's sugar cookie and icing recipe and I had about 2 days of baking madness!

Here are the finished results...

I was particularly excited about this one...

Not too bad for someone who has never iced cookies before!  The only problem turned out to be that while I was icing the cookies on Friday night the shower was alive and kicking!  I got the dates mixed up and thought the shower was on Saturday.  I missed it completely!  Man, I do not know WHAT is up with my brain (and no, I am not smelling burnt toast as Chris jokingly inquired).  Thankfully, my dear friend had a great time at the shower and I just sent some of the cookies her way along with her present.  I could not have been more embarrassed but I just have to look back and laugh at myself.  Seriously, how can you not laugh?!

If you would have made it to the shower there wouldn't be any for me. Really sorry you missed the shower but happy that I will get some cookies :)
