H1N1 Hits Home

Despite everyone getting the seasonal flu shot, washing our hands so much they were dry and cracked and using enough hand sanitizer to supply a small country, H1N1 still hit our family.

Last Friday I started out with a small cough that escalated into a painful flu. On Saturday, Ashlyn began having the same symptoms. It was definitely one of the worst flu viruses I have ever had. I started to feel like a walking Nyquil advertisement. We had coughing, aching, stuffy head, fevers, headaches and fatigue. Ashlyn told me that she couldn't walk because her knees hurt so badly. I knew exactly how she was feeling. I myself was so sore it actually hurt to sleep. Oh and forget about sleep anyway because you spend the entire night switching from freezing to sweating to death.

Thankfully, the flu only lasted five days. The cough is still hanging on but we feel tons better. After being diagnosed, Ashlyn was given Tamiflu. After being diagnosed I was told there was nothing they could do for me. Gee...thanks.

So just in case you are trying to decide whether you should get your family vaccinated for H1N1 take my advice - DO IT! Not everyone is eligible but if you are one of the target groups get yourself and your kids vaccinated.

As you know, I got the creepy crud as well. 5 days for me too as well as all the same perks you mentioned - achy, coughing, fever etc. Thank God it's over!
