Is Covid cramping anyone else's style?
Yes?
I knew we weren't the only ones.
When the pandemic hit last year it was the week that Ashlyn & her friends (the Lunchies, as they call themselves) were supposed to have Junior Prom. Of course, with a global pandemic on the horizon, prom was cancelled but Ashlyn & a few friends wore their dresses on the last day of school before quarantine.
This year, Senior Prom was never even discussed. Never scheduled. It just wasn't going to happen. One of Lunchies' moms called me & asked what I thought about us throwing the girls a faux-prom. I was immediately on board, not wanting Ashlyn & her friends to miss out on yet another high school experience.
So we planned. Ashlyn's friend's family would host, Chris would be the chef for the evening, I would take the photographs, the other parents provided appetizers & a disco ball, & the girls excitedly bought dresses for the occasion.
The day arrived & although it was a little chillier than we had hoped for, it was not super windy & the girl's didn't have to endure blistering heat.

The girls arrived & were given sequined masks & their families took photos & slipped on corsages.
I kinda love how all of their dresses ended up being color coordinated.

I may be biased but I think that Ashlyn's dress was my favorite. It was completely unique, her signature color & just the right amount of sparkle.
Isn't she lovely?

Chris had given the girls some options when it came to the menu. They settled on rosemary focaccia bread (which Ashlyn made the morning of the event), a table side served Caesar salad with handmade dressing, followed by the main course; filet mignon with a red wine reduction sauce, golden mashed potatoes & roasted green beans. This was all followed up by a dessert course provided by the hosting family of cheesecake & a homemade chocolate cake.

They played Madlibs & corn hole...
& danced the night away to a Lunchies playlist that they compiled that spanned more than 8 hours worth of songs, including Cotton Eyed Joe...
It was a beautiful night & I am so glad that Ashlyn got to experience prom with her very best friends.
