flippin' good time..

I'll let you in on a little secret - I planned my kids' births so that they would be during the summer.
I figured:
1. no kid wants their birthday to compete with Christmas
2. summer birthdays mean outdoor parties where you can just hose down the patio after every one leaves

Win, win.

Of course, God has a great sense of humor & through this He taught me that HE is sovereign... & I am not.  My controlling nature was no match for his perfect plan & both of my kiddos were born early.  Ashlyn was born at 34 1/2 weeks which put her birthday in early June as opposed to July...like I had planned.

Landon was born at 37 weeks, landing his birthday during one of the hottest weeks of the year.  His 4th birthday party was one of the most miserably hot parties I have ever experienced.  I planned a firefighter themed party for him (ironic, right?!) & it was too hot for the kids to play any of the games.  When we visited the fire station later in the day we were all sweating to death & the ice cream we brought to accompany the brownies we had made for the firefighters was more like soup by the time we got into the station.

Having a birthday at the end of the summer just means you are going to have to deal with the heat.  This year, that meant 113 degrees with some smoke & humidity thrown in, just for fun.  Thankfully, Landon chose Sky High as his party destination which meant all the air conditioning you could possibly desire.  He didn't care that it was hot as long as he could jump with his friends.

There was a slight chance that Ashlyn wouldn't be at the party this year but Landon was insistent that she be there.  When it turned out that she would be able to come he was so happy.

Another bonus about Sky High -  the massage recliners for the parents who are there waiting out their kid's jump time.  Chris & Olivia even enjoyed the massage feature.
Landon & his friends weren't interested in the massage chairs at all.  They were too busy mastering back flips & playing dodge ball.

There was a random little girl who kept following Landon around.  He would jump to one trampoline & try to set himself up for a flip & she would follow him.  He tried bouncing away & she continued to follow him everywhere he went.
As soon as he got the chance to break free he took it...

After Sky High we braved the heat & went to Cream & enjoyed ice cream, cookies, milkshakes & ice cream sandwiches.

A little proof that I was there too!
Later that night Landon said, "this is the funnest birthday party I've ever had!"  I'm pretty sure he's said that after every single one of his parties throughout the years but I'm just glad he is so fun-loving & easy to please.
