saying goodbye to elementary school...

A lot has happened over the past few weeks.  We are currently basking in the lazy days of summer

but let's rewind a few weeks...

This kid completed fifth grade.  Our elementary school days are over (insert crying emoji here).  I now officially have two middle schoolers.  How did THAT happen?!
Let me take a minute to talk about this woman right here.  She was Ashlyn's fifth grade teacher two years ago and we loved her then.  I was thrilled when we found out that Landon got her for fifth grade as well.  Little did I know that God put Landon in her class because He knew that she would be the best teacher to help him with his diabetes.  She supported Landon & was there to help us in so many ways this year.  She would text me during the day to keep me in the loop when his blood sugar was erratic.  She made sure he washed his hands before he tested (not an easy task).  She helped him transition from life without diabetes to a successful life with type 1.

We all have our favorite teachers- those who will forever be listed in our memories as the people who helped shape us into the successful adults we will become.  Mrs. Sparks has now been added to our entire family's list of the best teachers of all time.  She is an amazing woman and we could not have gotten through this year without her.

After the promotion the kids are able to go home.  Landon and I went out to breakfast to celebrate the end of his days in elementary school.  There is no cuter companion.

I had originally told Landon that I would take him to Cream to celebrate.  Like the kind and generous person that he is, Landon chose to wait until Ashlyn was out of school and could enjoy it with us.  It worked out perfectly because Landon's friend and his family were able to meet us there too.

If you have a Cream near you - check it out!  We like it because they have gluten free cookies so Landon can get an ice cream sandwich if he wants... or a milkshake bigger than his head!  They also have vegan ice cream so I can enjoy it too!
