My immediate thought was that there was no way that I could go away for the weekend. Chris was getting ready to go on a week long business trip to Florida and he would probably be exhausted when he returned. If I went I would have to leave the morning after he returned home. The kids would need me. Landon would need me to be there if his blood sugar dropped in the middle of the night.
I sent Chris a text and asked what he thought about it. He thought I was kidding. I told Chris that it was okay if the answer was no. Instead, my sweet husband said that he thought it was a good idea and that I needed to get away.
I will admit that it was hard for me to go. Being a wife and a mother, that's who I am. I don't take time off from those things. I felt guilty for leaving my family.
But you know what?
They survived. Actually, we all did.
Stocking up on magazines at the airport & a little inside joke...

Jalapeno margaritas...

Making friends...

After a night of sleep and an incredibly enormous thunderstorm (hey, I'm a California girl - we DO NOT have thunderstorms like that!) we headed to Waco and the Magnolia Market.
If you have ever seen the show Fixer Upper you are probably familiar with the market, silos and Chip and Jojo. It may sound crazy to travel halfway across the country for a store but it was totally worth the trip! In our defense we were also there visiting Christy's best friend.
This line was nothing, by the way. When we left it was down the block and around the corner and halfway down that block!

In addition to all the great home decor inside Magnolia Market they also had a large grass area with corn hole, soccer balls, wiffle balls & bats, and other fun stuff for all the dads and kids who didn't want to spend as much time inside the store. There were even food trucks and freshly made popcorn to enjoy.

Christy's friend, Erika, has a lake house and invited us to stay there on the second night of our trip. It was a tranquil and charming place to spend the evening.

I love this girl. She is such a great friend. She is one of those people who are just "real" and honest. She doesn't pretend to be something she's not. She's an encourager and she will always guide me to the truth. I am so thankful that God brought her into my life.

Chris was right; I did need time to get away. I needed a break from being "on" all the time. The weekend was relaxing, refreshing and a much needed recess. I had time to talk to my friend, read celebrity trash magazines, take a road trip, eat TONS of Mexican food, drink wine and just breathe.
During my flight home I was reflecting on my weekend and thanking God for my family, my friends and all the other blessings in my life. In the midst of my prayer God displayed His glory in an amazing sunset.
Photos can never quite capture the depth of His glory. He's just far too amazing.
