operation christmas child

This year our family is participating in Operation Christmas Child.  I showed the kids the video on samaritanspurse.org to help them better understand why we were packing the boxes.  They were both really excited.  When Landon heard that there were some kids in the world who didn't get any presents for Christmas he asked if next year he and Ashlyn could each send boxes out to three kids!

We decided to send boxes to a boy and a girl between the ages of 5 and 9.  I went shopping for the gifts while the kids were at school because I had a feeling that things would get out of control very quickly if they were there helping me pick out the items to send.

After we packed up the boxes Ashlyn and Landon made cards for the kids who would be receiving their gifts.  We included a picture of our family and the kids both wrote their address on the card in hopes that the child who gets their box might write them back.  We also donated online because then we can see exactly where each box ends up. PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

I wish I had been able to post this earlier to give you more time but it's not too late!  There are still three days left and you can do all the shopping in one day! If you are interested in helping out you can look here for drop off locations.  This is a great thing to get involved in and a wonderful way to show your kids that Christmas is about more than just getting presents.  We can give to those in need and share the love of Christ with children all over the world.

What an absolutely wonderful way to train and refocus their little souls to the needs of others rather than the wants that all kids develop at this time of year.
A BIG shout out to you mom for your efforts to raise your kids to see the needs of others and reach out to help!
